GARDEN THERAPY
Garden therapy, also known as horticultural therapy, allows a person to reconnect with nature while reconnecting with their inner self. The physical work involved in gardening also allows the person to connect with their body along with the emotions they might be feeling.
Each client who enters the therapy garden is given the opportunity to choose their plot of land and create their own special place. Flowers, seeds and plants are offered and chosen according to their individual desires. The client then becomes the caretaker, tending to his or her garden’s needs for them to grow and flourish.
As the garden grows, the client can imagine their own growth. The success of a garden brings endless joy and can be the beginning of pleasant emotions such as excitement and happiness to those suffering from melancholy and depression.
The garden, like nature itself, can be a reflection to the individual of the cycle of life, the times of dormancy and the times of rebirth along with the constant opportunities to start again.
